PGE has signed a contract with LG Energy
PGE Energetyka Kolejowa has built an energy storage facility in Garbce near Wrocław with a capacity of 5.5 MW and a usable capacity
With a capacity of 680 MW, it is the largest hydroelectric power station in Poland. It uses four 170 MW Francis pump-turbines to send water from its lower reservoir, Lake Żarnowiec, up to an upper reservoir for storage. During periods of high power demand, the water is released back down to the turbines to produce power.
The project received the first energy storage promise in Poland and a contract in the capacity market from 2029. The storage facility will stabilise the energy system, supporting the integration of RES and balancing the operation of offshore wind farms.
The project is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2027. The project has received the first electricity storage promise in Poland, it holds a connection agreement to the national power system and a 17-year contract under the capacity market, effective from 2029.
It is our goal that by the end of our term of office, 200,000 Polish homes should have their own energy storage facilities. This is real support for households and for the entire system - said Paulina Hennig-Kloska, Minister of Climate and Environment at the ground-breaking ceremony.
