There are three Mobile Phone Companies or operators in Papua New Guinea (PNG). These companies are Digicel, Bmobile-Vodafone and Telikom PNG. Below is the description of each of the companies. 1. Digicel Digicel is a mobile phone network provider operating in 31 markets across the Caribbean, Central America, and Oceania regions.
Vodafone PNG currently has just over 500 base stations. In the next 8 months, they intend to have 800 sites live, progressively expanding coverage to 22 provinces. Currently, they cover approximately 50% of the population with these stations.
NBC, has for many years, operated an extensive radio network across Papua New Guinea using FM, AM and shortwave transmissions. EM TV has 33 transmitters, NBC, 22 and there are three MMDS operators (one in each market – Port Moresby, Alotau and Mt Hagen).
It is derived from the Papua New Guinea Spectrum Plan or Frequency Allocation Table ( 2017 ), which in turn is based on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Radio Regulations (WRC-2015). Each of these bands is divided into sub-bands which are allocated to particular services shown in the chart by different colors.
