In 2018, import duties on solar panels were removed and in July 2024 this was temporarily extended to some other equipment, all of which are now also temporarily exempt from VAT.
Households in Ukraine tend on average to have larger rooftop solar PV systems than in other countries. The feed in tariff is available for larger systems and from 2020 may be up to 50 kW and can be both rooftop or ground mounted. In March 2019 the power of residential solar was an average of 21.5 kW per family.
Solar insolation in Ukraine ranges from 1100 to 1500 kWh/m², making the entire country suitable for solar power plant deployment. The southern regions of the country are optimal for operation. Approximately half of all solar power plants are concentrated in six regions: Ivano-Frankivsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Khmelnytskyi, Kyiv, and Mykolaiv.
