Energy Solutions Group Secures Financing for 75 MW Battery
The Harmignies battery storage system, which will consist of 82 Tesla Megapacks 2XL, will deliver 75 MW of power for 4 hours. It is located on an industrial site next to an ELIA
The largest battery energy storage system in mainland Europe has gone live in Belgium, as Sungrow and ENGIE completed the first 400MWh phase of the 200MW/800MWh Vilvoorde project. Project: ENGIE Vilvoorde Battery Energy Storage System Capacity: 200MW / 800MWh (400MWh Phase 1 online)
Belgium's newest Megapack project in Harmignies, projected at a cost of $87.4 million, is poised to become the country's most significant energy storage facility. The site will feature a 75 MW/300MWh capacity, repurposing a former cement factory to harness modern, sustainable energy solutions.
The milestone of reaching financial close was celebrated as a significant step towards energizing the green transition in Belgium. Olivier Bouchat of Wallonie Entreprendre highlighted the importance of battery storage parks in stabilizing Belgium's energy grid, especially with the increasing reliance on decarbonized energy sources.
