Fuses and circuit breakers may also be installed in equipment such as your automobile to protect against internal faults. Figure 2–29 shows a variety of fuses and breakers. Fuses use a metallic element that melts when current exceeds a preset value. Thus, if a fuse is rated at 3 A, it will “blow” if more than 3 amps passes through it.
The fuses are tested and approved in accordance with current test standard IEC 60282-1 and VDE 0670 T4. Dimensionally, the fuses meet DIN 43625 and are designed for use both indoors and outdoors. The low effect losses in the fuses make them suitable for use in encased switchgear.
SIBA current limiting high-voltage fuse in "Sweden version" meets the special requirements specified in ELSÄK-FS 1999: 5 § 801.1. These fuses is characterised by its ability to manage a disconnection time = 100 ms for occurrence of arc in low voltage switchgear. These fuses are intended as both short circuit protection and overload protection.
