A fire inside a San Diego Gas & Electric battery storage facility in Escondido on Thursday ignited lithium-ion batteries in a storage container and prompted the evacuation of about 500 businesses, a fire official said.
The 2.5 MW, 5 MWh energy storage system is the latest addition to UC San Diego's portfolio of energy storage devices – one of the most diverse energy storage portfolios of any university in the world.
